About Me

Hi World!

I'M David Ryan

I have taken a lot of photos over my long career (since 1969?) and have seen a lot of the world. I hope that the beautiful and curious sights I have brought back will appear equally so to you.

To me, almost anything warrants at least a second look and then, perhaps, even a photo. Consequently, I have a problem pigeon holing myself and would prefer to let others do that. My self-challenge is to find the beautiful in as much as I can, and this is a good world for that. My work can be strong on brilliant colors as well as subtle with muted tones but will always show a strong sense of composition using both line and color. If there has been any influence on my shooting at all, it would be from such great photographers as George Holton, Pete Turner, and Jay Maisel.

Please enjoy my work! (A complete portfolio, including portraiture, real estate, and other subjects can be seen at www.davidryanphotography.com.)

My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.

Inspiration

As mentioned above, I received great inspiration from the Masters: Cartier-Bresson for my black and white, George Holton for my travel imagery, and Pete Turner and Jay Maisel for my color and composition.

Techniques

I began in the days when Tri-X and Kodachrome ruled the photography world and still strive for that very special look with my digital work. And no, I would not go back to film for anything!

career highlights

I started as a stringer in Mexico City for Newsweek, the New York Times and a host of local publicatons. I photographed for the presidency of Luis Echeverria for several years, and managed my own E-6 lab there in the 70's. After moving to San Francisco, I traveled the Pacific Rim and sat on the board of the Pacific Asia Travel Association. My list of magazines and corporate clients is long.
